About
Banke Bihari Temple
Shri Bankey Bihari Temple, which is devoted to Lord Krishna, is among the most well-known temples in Vrindavan. Here, the words “Banke” and “Bihari” stand for bent and vihari, respectively.
The main deity in this temple is positioned in the “tribhanga” posture, which is three-angled. Lord Krishna was given the appellation “Banke” as a result of his three-pointed bend. The original name of this Lord Krishna idol, “Kunj-Bihari,” which means “the one who adores kunj or groves of Vrindavan,” was worshipped at Nidhivan.
This temple, which is located in the holy city of Vrindavan, symbolises Swami Haridas ji’s commitment to and love of Sri Radha-Krishna. The blessings of the Lord on His devoted devotee are personified in the form of Lord Krishna’s idol.

The History
Lalita Sakhi, a member of Shri Radhe-inner Krishna’s circle, was thought to have returned as Swami Haridas ji, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and Radharani. Lord Krishna and Shrimati Radharani physically manifested at Nidhivan in response to Swami Haridas ji’s bhakti and devotion.
However, the divine couple’s beauty and allure were so overwhelming that the mortal beings (Haridas ji’s students) could not stand it. Swami Ji saw this and asked Shri Radhe-Krishna to assume an integrated form like Ghan (cloud) and Damini (lightning). Shri Shyama-Shyam combined into a single, alluring Banke Bihari ji idol in response to their devotee’s prayer, and this idol is still revered at the temple today.
Swami Haridas ji himself gave Goswami Jagannath the duty of performing Seva for Bihari ji. And according to custom, Goswami Jagannath ji’s offspring continue to carry out Thakur ji’s seva.

The Architecture
The Shri Banke Bihari ji Temple was built in 1862. The god was initially revered at a Nidhivan temple. Later, after the new complex was finished, the Shri Banke Bihari ji idol was moved to the current temple.
The temple’s architecture is influenced by Rajasthani design, and pillars and arches only add to its grandeur.
