How was Lord Karthikeya Born:
Lord Karthikeya is a highly well-known deity who is revered both in India and beyond. He is also known by a number of other names, including Subrahmanya, Skanda, Shanmuka, and Kumaraswami. Karthikeya is said to be the younger brother of Lord Ganesha, the first child of Shiva and Parvati, who is thought to be the son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. The Puranas contain a fascinating tale that describes the birth of Karthikeya.
Mother Parvati’s previous incarnation, Sati, used to spend her time with the Lord. Daksha Prajapati, her father, desired to plan a sizable Yajna. Daksha was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu and had no respect for Shiva, whom he derided as a crazy man and a mendicant living a wayward life. Shiva disallowed Sati’s plans when she wished to participate in the Yajna led by her father.
Sati ignored Shiva’s instruction since she was dissatisfied and made her own way. Shiva was the only god present at the gathering, so she did not given a proper welcome, which made her feel degraded. She entered the sacrificial fire and offered up her body because she was unable to face her Lord, who had previously counselled her not to go. She thus gave birth in the home of Himavan, the mountain king. She once more remarried Shiva, who she fervently worshipped.
The gods had to endure suffering at the hands of the demons Taraka and Surapadma because they had participated in the Yajna to which Shiva was not invited. Years were spent in prayer to Lord Shiva, asking him to step in and save them. The Lord’s mercy finally ran out, and he made the decision to create a new manifestation of his ability to drive out demons. Lord Shiva emitted six sparks from his eyes. Agni was tasked with carrying them since they were too hot to be carried by any other element in the creation.
Even Agni was unable to handle the intensity of the sparks, so he dropped them into a lake known as Saravana. The six sparks manifested as six celestial offspring in the lake. Shiva and Parvati were overjoyed by the children’s beautiful appeal and asked the six Karthika sisters to take care of the infants. The name Karthikeya came about because the children were raised by the Karthika sisters. When Lord Shiva and Parvati arrived at the lake, Parvati embraced all six of the kids at once, which caused them to merge into one body with six heads. Because of this, Karthikeya is also known as Shanmuka (six faced Lord).
Lord Karthikeya utilised the celestial weapon known as “Vel,” which Mother Parvati gave him, to battle and defeat the demons. When he triumphed, the gods praised him in numerous ways, and Indra, the King of the Gods, gave Karthikeya his daughter Devasena in marriage. The celebrity marriage was observed by the universe and the skies. Karthikeya accomplished a tremendous undertaking with ease, earning his parents enduring fame. Later, in order to appease his followers, he appeared in various ways and took up residence in a number of Indian temples.
