The History
The ruler of Paravur, Pravur Thampuran, was a devoted follower of Mookambika. He used to pay respects to the deity by going to the Kollur temple in Mangalore each year. But as he grew older and his health deteriorated, he was unable to make the exhausting trip to Kollur. In a dream, the goddess visited the grieving devotee and gave him the go-ahead to erect her idol close to his home so he could see her every day. She gave Thampuran instructions, and he built a temple in Paravur and placed the Goddess there. Standing in the centre of a revered lotus pool is the “Srikovil.” The temple, which is located in the middle of a lotus pond, eventually earned the name dakshina Mookambika.
