History :
The temple is thought to have been constructed on the 5′ 3″-wide footprint of Lord Narasimha Swamy. The Ahobilam Temple in Kurnool is where the other footstep is. The Lord allegedly granted Udhaalaka Maharshi a vision of Him.
King Sadashivaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire erected a sizable statue of the Lord and a magnificent temple in 1472 A.D. There is a tunnel at the bottom, and as all of Abhishekam’s theertha flows into the Penna River, there is none here.
Along with this temple, there is one called Udhbava Mahalakshmi, where Sadashivaraya erected the idol of Sri Maha Lakshmi in her Udhbava form (sprouting from the rock). Frequently, a cobra comes to see mother Maha Lakshmi.
The Chalukya King Kirtivarman II is mentioned in several inscriptions on the temple walls that range from the eighth to the sixteenth centuries.
